Geocache Description:

Near Abu Tor in Jerusalem is the historic Hill of Evil Council.

Currently on the spot is a Greek Orthodox Church, a Jewish Synagog, and the remains of a Crusader Church. NOTE- There are two gates, one is always open. Please hide cache well, area is very public. Follow the signs (in Hebrew for Synagog) through the open (always) gate and into the courtyard, note on the other side is a locked gate. The Synagog is to the right and the churches to the left. There are also very old columns and a aqueduct on site.

On this spot; the Sanhedrin plotted to hand Jesus over to the Romans; this is how the Hill received it's name or it is also said the hill where the UN sits is the spot. I dont know for sure and will update history as I learn more.

It is also said Judas committed suicide on this hill. Three Roman Generals used this hill as a headquarters while they seiged Jerusalem.

"The hill which limits on the south the valley of Himnon bears a name of unpleasant memories: The Mount of Evil Counsel. Locally it is called the Jebel Deir Abu Tor (Mount of the Convent of the Father of a Bull) Where the Greek property now stands, there is a Greek Orthodox property dedicated to Luke whose emblem is an ox. Abu Tor is now called Givat Hananias and it belongs to the Greek Monastery of St. Procopius. There is a 7th century church which could have been erected by Modestus in 663. There is an underground chapel and cells. Some Arab authors hold that Abu Tor got its name from Saladin's lieutenant, Ahmed Abu Tor, who rode on an ox and not on a horse. Tradition says that the High priest Caiaphas had owned a country house on that height in where the Jews held their first meeting against Jesus: Caiaphas said "....it is better for one man to die for the people than for the whole nation to be destroyed." (John 11, 47) "
