Our first cache!!

The cache is in a small plastic box, containing log book and some small treasures.

The "Silver Bell" is one of the most ancient Racing Trophies in Britain. Many believe 'the Bell' to have been gifted from King William 'The Lion' of Scotland in approximately 1165. King William often stayed at Lanark Castle to participate in the local hunt and watch the racing on the moors.
The ‘Silver Bell’ Trophy in existence has hallmarks dating from the late 1500’s, which suggests this is not the original Bell.
The Silver Bell was a highly acclaimed race, competed for annually at Lanark Racecourse until the course closed in 1977.
After much local debate and controversy, the Silver Bell Race was moved to its new home, Hamilton Race Course, where it was first raced for in 2008.
The Race Course today looks well past its glory days, only the Tote building standing - the stands and rails gone.
Today the Race Course has seen some re-furbishment with all-weather football pitches being built and it remains a haven for dog walkers….and hopefully now, geocachers!

Once you find the cache, explore the maze of paths in the woodland, or take the more direct circuit around the race track.
