Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates are where you begin your stroll of Zelienople, PA. They are not the coordinates of the cache!

Your stroll will take you down the main street of the picturesque community of Zelienople, PA. Zelienople was named in honor of Zelie, the beautiful daughter of Baron Frederick William Dettmar Basse, who founded the town in 1803. There are but a few towns in the area where you can take a walk, get something to eat, and do a little shopping…Zelienople is one of them.

The coordinates above will take you to the beginning of your stroll. Depending on where you park, you may need to feed a parking meter.

The first thing you want to do is print out this cache page and take it with you, filling in the needed numbers of the coordinates as you go. You can also drive through town to get the numbers you will need to complete the coordinates for the cache.

The final location of the cache is:
N 40° AB.CDE
W 080° FG.HIJ

To find the numerical values of the letters, begin your stroll at the coordinates at the top of this cache page. You will find yourself in front of the Zelienople Post Office. Take the last two numbers of the zip code and subtract 16. This is the “AB” coordinate.

Stroll down Main Street heading north until you reach the Kaufman House restaurant, which has been serving its customers since 1810. Using the number of the Kaufman House’s street address, add 247. This is the “CDE” coordinate.

Bonus: Coordinate “F” is a zero.

Continue walking north until you reach The Strand, an old movie theatre constructed in 1914, which featured silent films with live piano accompaniment. An initiative was created to completely renovate the theater. Using the number of its street address, add the three digits together and then subtract 4 from the total to get the “G” coordinate.

Continuing north, you will reach a corner where you’ll find a Lion water fountain. (If you are geocaching in the winter, the lion may be in his box.) This intersection is Route 19 and Route XX. Using the second route number, multiply that number by 10 and then subtract 1 to get the “HIJ” coordinate.

You now have all of the coordinates for the cache! Take a short drive to find the cache. It is a camo-painted plastic container. There is plenty of parking close to the cache and very little bushwacking is needed. Please replace the cache exactly as you found it. Beware of muggles. Good luck and have fun!

NOTE: The park may be locked for the winter. If it is, you will need to walk a little further than had you gone when the park is open.
