West's Spy Base
As part of the war effort the West has established a Spy Base
within enemy territory in a strategic location near the war zone.
This enables the West to gather intelligence (!!!), especially on
Northern troop movements, and also to maintain a vigilant watch
over their own Air Base. The published co-ordinates are propaganda
to protect the secret location of the Spy Base. Do not go there, it
would be as dangerous as walking into a war zone! However do check
out this location on Google Earth and see how the North foolishly
exposes its geocaches by allowing such clear satellite images of
its territory to be displayed, while the West censors its satellite
imagery to protect caches within its territory!
It is rumoured that in recent days an agent from the North
overheard a whispered conversation between two agents of the West,
during which the location of the Spy Base was discussed. This
secret information was passed from northern agent to northern agent
up the bridge until it reached the North’s headquarters.
Fortunately for the West these enemy agents had garbled the message
each time it was passed on. By the time the message reached
headquarters it read
“The Spy Base is located at:
South Thirty-six forty-six point SIGNS SLAP HAND
East One Seventy-four forty point LONER MAIL MEND.”
The errors occurred by changing one letter in each word, each of
the four times the message was repeated. The agents did not notice
the error, as each time the change resulted in a real word. (e.g.
TEN – PEN – PIN – PIE – LIE).
Find the real co-ordinates of the Spy Base by reversing these
errors.
Will the agents from the North infiltrate the Spy Base, or will
the agents from the West get there first and warn them?
The first two agents to reach the Spy Base will discover a
Travel Slug Key which they can use to unlock the Prisoner-Of-War
Camp cache on the other side of the bridge. Thereafter these keys
may be moved among any of the caches in the war zone. (See GC1RTTF
Prisoner-Of War Camp for more details).
The cache is a 200ml sistema containing logbook and pencil, and
cunningly disguised to look like just another Northern
installation.
