Geocache Description:

Springhouse: A stone enclosure with a wood-bark roof.

A springhouse is a small building that was used for refrigeration. Before electric refrigeration, springhouses were once common in many rural areas and were used for long-term storage of food that would otherwise spoil, such as meat, fruit or dairy products. Usually a one-room building constructed over the source of a spring or over a small creek, the water maintains a constant cold temperature inside the springhouse throughout the year. Come visit this very nice specimen of a springhouse and listen to the water gurgling beneath it.
Note: please do not attempt this from Route 29.
