Geocache Description:

Cache is located along the Paiute ATV Trail and near Forest Road #2251. Will need ATV or high clearance vehicle to access this cache.

This cache is in honor of the Redview Guard Station, a Forest Service outpost that served the management of the Fishlake National Forest for many years.

In the early years of the US Forest Service, most of the mountains we now cross in minutes and hours were managed by a hardy troop of Rangers via horseback and pack animal and it took days to get from one side of the mountain to the other. As such, it was necessary to have outposts where a ranger could hang his hat for a day or so as he checked on grazing permits or logging operations. These "guard stations" were strategically located a days ride apart and were an intrical part of the land management methods of the previous century.

The Redview Guard station was built in the 1920's. Note the photo.
It was decommissioned and removed from the site in 1997. This one room station had all the modern conviencies, including a fresh spring, corral for stock, an out building for tack and fencing supplies, and even electricity.

Today, only the steps to the spring, the old flagpole and parts of the old corral remain.

This cache is located about 30' due east of the old flagpole.

After you find it, you might want to make a guess as to what this hiding facility was/is, and what it was used for.

My grandson Logan helped me hide this cache. It was fun telling him the stories about the old site.

I never spent the night in this old facility, but I visited it often and tried to repair what vandals damaged over the years. That's the main reason it was decommissioned; the FS just couldn't keep the windows in repair and the locks from being damaged. So the decision was made to haul it all away. The cabin was moved to Monroe mountain and sits on private property and is now used as a hunting cabin.

Container is small with room for a log book and a few small items.
