We are extremely flattered to have been nominated for "Best Urban Hide 2009".
Cocktail… a cinematic tour de forc— okay, well not really.
Let's try that again...
Cocktail… the film that launched Tom Cruise's caree— okay, well not really. It was his 10th film.
Okay, rewind. Different approach...
Here we have the very first location of the chain of bar/restaurants called— what's that? We can't mention the name?
*sigh*
Okay, so the tour buses don't stop here (or even slow down), and we can't talk much about the company that got its start here. We do think this spot qualifies for an "On Location NYC" cache, since it is the place where Brian Flanagan (Cruise) and Doug Coughlin (Bryan Brown) perfected their synchronized bottle-juggling routine in the 1988 film.
It's also potentially noteworthy as the location of the very first [place we can't mention], which opened in this location in 1965. While the chain has gotten lost amid its imitators and the general noise of mediocre, monotonous middle-American mall occupiers, some sources credit it with single-handedly starting the "singles scene". Right here. In our neighborhood. Goodness me.
While we can't honestly claim to be fans of mediocre films, looney actors or cheesy chain "restaurants", this place is special to us nonetheless. Since we visit this location so much, we decided to place our first cache here.
It is a log-only nano; BYOP. Beware the second-hand smoke, and the speeding tour buses.
Important Note: due to some work by the city, the original container is in place, but inaccessible. If you find something that seems right but is, well, inaccessible, seek further.
