In 1935, during the Great Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt established the WPA (Works Progress Administration - later renamed Work Projects Administration), to provide employment for the thousands of impoverished unemployed in the U.S. Thousands of projects were completed during the years of 1935 to 1943 and the WPA employed over 93,000 Oklahomans alone. Edmond was the site of many of these projects which are still seen today.

** The American Legion building stands on the SW corner of Stephenson Park and was built in 1936. It was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1993.
** The original men's and women's dorms at UCO were also WPA projects.

** The original Edmond Community Center located between 2nd and 3rd streets, west of Broadway has a cornerstone dated 3/30/36. It later became the home of the Edmond Senior Citizens until 2005, and now houses Edmond's Mobile Meals and the U.R Special organization.

** The rock wall on the east and south sides of Gracelawn Cemetery on Danforth was completed in 1940. The layout of this cemetery is a wagon wheel design, to honor the 89ers who settled Edmond.
You are seeking a camo'd pill bottle (pencil included). Area open dawn to dusk. (If you absolutely had to, it could be approached from the south and be available after hours, but it is not recommended).
