Das Schwarzbachloch EarthCache

The Schwarzbachloch is at the base of the Reiteralm in the Berchtesgadener Land. It was always known by the population, because it`s easy to find and the area is not to hard to go through.

You walk to the source in 30 minutes. The point to start is the Schwarzbachwacht, today known as Wachterl, which is next to the federalroad from Berchtesgaden to Schneizlreuth. There is a wide pedestrian way down to the alps. At the alps is an small trail, at the left side, which will lead you to the aim. The source dehydrates the massif of the reiteralm, that´s why it is able to bring huge masses of water out of the rocks, especially at the snowmelt in sping. It´s a typical “Karst spring”.

If you will visit Schwarzbachloch in autumn or winter the riverbed is waterless. When there is less water you can go 40 meters inside the rock through an alley, which is 6-8 meters wide and 2-4 meters high. At the end of this alley is a siphon, which you can`t pass, only by diving.

Explorations disclosed, that the Schwarzbachloch is an entrance to a huge system of caves.

Das Schwarzbachloch liegt am Fuße der Reiteralm im Berchtesgadener Land. Es war schon immer den Menschen bekannt, weil es einfach zugänglich ist, leicht zu finden und unschwer zu begehen.

Die Quelle ist zu Fuß in ca. 30 Minuten zu erreichen. Ausgangspunkt ist die Schwarzbachwacht, heute das Gasthaus Wachterl, an der Bundesstraße zwischen Berchtesgaden und Schneizlreuth. Von hier geht ein breiter Fußweg bergab zu den Almen. Dort angekommen wendet man sich links und erreicht über einen kleinen Pfad das Ziel.

Die Quelle entwässert den ganzen Gebirgsstock der Reiteralm und kann deshalb enorme Wassermengen zutage bringen, besonders im Frühjahr zur Schneeschmelze. Es handelt sich um eine typische "Karstquelle".

Geht man im Herbst oder Winter hin, dann liegt das Bachbett trocken. Bei niedrigem Wasserstand kann man 40 Meter in einem Gang von 6 bis 8 m Breite und 2 bis 4 Metern Höhe leicht geneigt eindringen. Dann steht man vor einem Siphon, der jeden Weiterweg verwehrt. Hier beginnt das Reich der Taucher.

Begehungen haben ergeben, das dass Schwarzbachloch der Eingang zu einem riesigen Höhlensystem ist.
