De svenska korttelefonkioskerna ägs idag av Telia Sonera Sverige AB. Då mobiltelefoner blev vanligare under andra halvan av 1990 talet minskade antalet telefonkiosker i Sverige. Innan telefonkort infördes betalade man med mynt. Denna möjlighet har på senare år återinförts i Telias nyare telefonautomater. Nödnumret 112 samt #2 (mottagaren betalar) är dock gratis. På många telefonkiosker finns numer sändare för trådlöst internet och sträcker sig 150 meter runt "surfkiosken".
