A circuit of the Glen Artney Donalds and tops. This is described as
a clockwise circuit. This makes a good walking day out, or can be
split into shorter walks if time is limited. Am Beannan is an easy
walk down from Meall Clachach 621m. This is the last of the 4 Glen
Artney Donalds. Whilst Am Beannan is not a Donald it is an
impressive hill anyway more so if you attempt the walk
anti-clockwise, starting with this one.
The cache is near the top of Am Beannan above some very impressive
steep slopes and rocks facing east. This the last or the first of
the tops depending which way round you do the circuit. Care is
needed descending down to the cache especially in poor weather.
Good views of the Highland Boundary fault from here, marking the
start of the Highlands.
The views to the Highland mountains from this round are excellent,
probably as good as you will get from any Donald. The obvious
nearby ones are Ben Vorlich, Stuc a'Chroin, Ben Lawers, Ben Ledi.
Please be aware of the conditions on the hills and your fitness
level.
They may not be Munros, but these you are likely to encounter
rough ground here and there are few paths.
Allow adequate time to complete your chosen route, ensuring you
have appropriate clothing, food, drinks and maps with you. Please
make sure someone is aware of your route and the approximate time
you are due back.
