A trail of two quarries Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

soodyer: No-one has been for a year and it's two years since anyone logged it on here so I've decided to archive it. Also, the parking space has become overgrown and it makes it hard to park safely.
Shame really, as it was a nice walk.

Geocache Description:

A cache within 0.5 miles from the road or a 2-3 mile round trip, you decide.

Parking is possible at N 55:35.142 W 001:52.833 (NU 07575 32458). There is a signpost for a public bridle path to Newlands North Moor. The cache is placed on Lyham Moor at the site of a disused quarry. Views are great towards the coast where you can see Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle, and inland towards Cheviot.

If you want a longer walk keep going for another 0.5 miles to N 55:34.623 W 001:52.161 (NU 08336 31496) then follow the permissive path to Lyham Hill where there is another disused quarry that has been in existence since Elizabethan times, first recorded in 1563. There are more than 100 shallow circular hollows where millstones were extracted.

Once at Lyham Hill turn right towards the road and at the cow pen join the road and walk the last few yards to the parking place.
