Monticello Black Walnut Traditional Cache
grandpadave: Time to let this cache and historic location go. My folks have moved away so my reason for visiting Longview often has changed. Hopefully some local cachers will adopt this location and place a new cache.

This black walnut tree was planted 142 years ago near the townsite of Monticello. From what information I can gather, this tree was planted just after the devastating floods that wiped out the town.
With reasonable care a black walnut tree can live 300 years.Human and natural forces have taken many years of life from this tree. The 1962 Columbus Day Storm alone tore off several limbs. Also, the theft of a large limb left the tree unbalanced. This black walnut tree has received practically no maintenance over the years. The Monticello tree is near the site of the first public school in the State of Washington.
There is safer parking off Tennant Way at the end of the frontage road near Lakeside Industries.
