Why do one Munro when you can do three!?! These caches can be found at the top of Meall Greigh, Meall Garbh and An Stuc, three Munros found at the East End of the Lawers Range. It is possible to do these coming from Ben Lawers but the descriptions below takes you on a loop, starting and ending in the village of Lawers, on the North side of Loch Tay.
Park at the Lawers hotel, the lower carpark can be used by walkers providing they buy something after their walk. From here head East back down the road, cross the Lawers Burn and head up the path behind the 'Horn Carver' on a private road to Machuim Farm. Follow this path along the East side of the Lawers Burn for a few Kms, avoiding the temptation to cross the burn via the bridge, until you reach the first main stream coming down from Meall Griegh. Follow it up to the top which is a grassy rounded hill with a cairn at the top. The cache is a just off the peak.
Please be aware that in good conditions this is still a strenuous walk but in bad conditions extreme care should be taken as it can be very dangerous. Weather conditions can change in a matter of minutes and all the usual warnings apply when walking up munros. I placed these caches in early June and on that day I experienced blazing sunshine, rain, thick fog, hail and on An Stuc: snow which was lying on the summit!!! The following points should be observed (Thanks Snaik!)
You are responsible for your own safety.
Are you fit enough to complete your chosen walk in the available time?
Know where you are going on the walk and follow the route on your map.
If in a Group know how many are in your party and stay together, never split up.
Ensure you have enough food plus emergency rations
Carry a map & compass, survival bag, torch, whistle and small first aid kit. Know how to use them.
In severe winter conditions you must carry an ice axe. You are also recommended to carry crampons.
Learn how to use your equipment
Cold temperatures will reduce the life of your batteries
Please leave your route with a responsible person.
*** Congratulations to McLöt on the FTF. Well deserved by the sounds of it!! ***
