Geocache Description:

Have you ever had your directions turned around in your head? You think you’re going south toward a cache, only to discover that it’s moving away from you?
How about being in a strange city in a hotel and you discover that the rising sun is blinding you through the west window.

Near this location is my sisters home. The first time that I visited was at night. The winding back roads turned my internal direction finder around. Now when I’m there for a visit I seem to be watching the sun move across the sky from North to South and thunderstorms roll in from the Southeast. Over the years, I’ve identified many of the spots where my mind does that directional flip-flop.
One place is on a straight lane that leads to one of my sister’s farm fields. When I walk from the highway toward the field, I am walking west. About two thirds of the way to the field, my mind does one of those flip-flops and I’m heading south.
This 1-quart Lock-n-Lock cache is located on the fence line of that lane. Do not cross any fences or you will be on private property. Because of its special coordinates, it is placed on the ground within 6 inches of a fence post. Grass grows tall here. In the fall/winter the cache may get covered by dried grass.
Two GPS units were placed side by side at this location and allowed to rest for ½ hour. Showing 16 ft. accuracy, both units showed the same coordinates with the last North digit being different by one number.

This grassy field lane was once a country road, but abandoned long ago. Drive it at your own risk. The small bridge has quite a big dip as you go over it. Wet weather will only make things worse. Turning around at the end of the lane may be difficult.

For a Bonus, go to N42 11.528 W89 59.806. You will find US Dept. of the Interior benchmark 31MDD 1967. It is not listed in the benchmark list on this website. Its southern two sisters, 32MDD and 33MDD, are listed on this site. Unfortunately they are both missing.

Congratulations to S10 for FTF.
