Geocache Description:

This cache takes you to a wetland area at the top of Forge Pond.  The pond is an impoundment on the Drinkwater River; made in the 18th century to power early industries.

The trailhead is along Circuit Street.  Parking is possible here, but not recommended.  Better to park at the ballfield further north, and walk back.  Look for the small sign pictured at right.  The trail takes you beyond residential property bordering the street, and into Hanover Conservation Land.  A wooden footbridge crosses French Stream near the confluence with the Drinkwater River.  A short bushwhack off trail will be necessary as you approach the head of the pond.  The cache is a challenging hide, since muggles have proven to be a problem with former caches in this vicinity.

The two streams that feed the pond, and the pond itself, are having troubled times, with high amounts of dissolved metals and other chemical pollutants resulting from the old industries, and runoff from adjacent towns further north.  Click the following Link for more info on the Indian Head River watershed, which includes Forge Pond and its tributaries.
