The Moenchbruch
– nature protection area
the Moenchbruch is with
937 ha the second largest nature protection area in Hessen. This
nature protection area is part of the very large "naturraum" Mönchbruch
and Wälder. The bottom of the
Mönchbruch consists out of sand, mud
and grit. This is because in former times the Mainriver flooded this area. Therefore, the
mönchbruch is still the last, wide
wetland in Germany.
Lots of animals, which colonized in the mönchbruch are threaded
with extinction, like Neuntöter,
Eisvogel and Mittelspecht.
Back to the things of Geological interest, the mönchbruch as a wetland has a special bottom.
you can only find this kind of stones in
this wetland. The mud is a mix out os
sand, schluff and clay. It results
either through alteration from hard- or lockersteinen or through unsorted accumulation of
these ingredients. There a different kinds of mud. It depends on
the accrual. Berglehm, Gehängelehm, Geschiebelehm (glacier), Lösslehm or auenlehm
(from rivers. Mud can be found on more places, it is as well
one of the oldes building material. One
of the major parts in this bottom is the silt.
Silt is created by a variety of physical capable
of splitting the generally sand-sized quartz crystals of primary
rocks by explooiting deficiencies in
their lattice. these involve chemical
weathering of rock and regolith, and a number of physical
weathering processes such as frost shattering and haloclasty. the main
process is abrasion through transport, including fluvial
comminution, aelian attrition and glacial grinding. It is in
semi-arid environments that substantial quantities of silt are
produced. Silt is sometimes known as rock flour or stone dust,
expecially when produced by glacial
action. Mineralogically, silt is
composed mainly of quartz and feldspar. Sedimentary rock composed
mainly of silt is known as siltstone.

animals in there.What
is the special thing with the bottom ? why can the water not drain away ?
2. the moenchbruchweiher, what was the reason for its
evolving ?

Mittelspecht). Mindestens sieben Fledermausarten (u. a.
Wasserfledermaus, Bechsteinfledermaus)
werden regelmäßig beobachtet. An Eichentotholz leben in großer Zahl
An
allen wichtigen Punkten sind Informationstafeln zu finden. Auch
Radfahrer haben ausreichend Möglichkeiten. Zum Rasten sind
zahlreiche Schutzhütten vorhanden, Einkehrmöglichkeiten gibt es nur
äußerst spärlich. Die Wertigkeit als Erholungsraum für den Menschen
relativiert sich allerdings durch die außerordentlich große
Lärmbelastung, die aus der unmittelbaren Nachbarschaft des
Rhein-Main-Flughafens resultiert.
