Geocache Description:

The Ten Peaks Series features hikes up to high points in the Interior Thompson Plateau area. Caches are placed near the summits of these 10 peaks. Anyone who completes all 10 peaks will have access to an eleventh location and a cache of BCGA coins. Completing the whole series will not be easy.
Additional caches will be placed at viewpoints or along the trails to add to the hiking experience.

Mount Mara rises up in ridges, gullies, and cliffs over the north shore of the Thompson River to the west of Kamloops. The south face is well-known for its hoodoos, rock formations, and eroded landscape. A trail winds up through a slot canyon to the upper slopes of the mountain. Beyond, the trail continues to climb, winding over the south ridge and into the next canyon, before switchbacking up to the mountaintop. Alternately, hikers and mountain bikers can take the Pruden Pass Road by parking at the gate on the Red Lake Road near Tranquille. This route is the longest of the three, but motsly follows double tracks all the way to the top. A third route is the quickest, but involves climbing over a fence. Drive up the Lac du Bois Road and trun west onto the Pruden Pass Road. Park at the end of the road, cross the fence and angle up from the northeast side. This route starts from the highest elevation and takes less than an hour, but there are no trails.
The view from the top is superb. To the south, the complex terrain of the south face of Mara stretches down to the farmlands below and the river beyond. Kamloops Lake and the Dewdrop Range lie to the west. The cache is placed over on the west and there are views up Tranquille River and the west side of Wheeler.
Mountain.
If you come by the south canyon, take a different trail down by turning left down the ridge at N50 43.927, W120 28.165. The South Ridge cache is best accessed from this trail.
