Geocache Description:

Levens Left Bank 2 , Oaktree Hollow
One in a series of five caches along Levens Park Avenue

As a young Mancunian boy, I can remember watching an appeal on TV to stop the ministry of transport from ploughing a “motorway” through the ancient avenue of trees leading down to Levens Hall in 1968/9 and the local MP Michael Jopling asking for a diversion.

Forty years later this series celebrates the reprieve of this avenue of oaks.

Roadside Parking is available near either SW or NE end of the avenue.
Refreshments available most days (Not Fri/Sat) from Levens Hall
This route can be linked into a round by also visiting GCT692White Faun on the other bank and your choice of excellent Martlakes caches to include GCXP75 The Safie Series - 6 Don't let it slam

The trees along this upper stretch of the avenue have been more hit by wind and weather with some showing obvious signs of damage from storm and lightning strike.
Most losses have been replaced over the years with replanting the same species and one oak is growing, phoenix like from the centre of the roots of the old tree.
Some have Green Man faces showing in the gnarled growths, some are twisted like barley sugar with clefts reaching deep into the heart wood and some, like this, totally hollow from heart rot.

This is the nineth iteration of this cache in three years and I hope this, the latest, lasts better than its ancestors but its looking like the tree itself might determine this ones life expectancy!

It is inspired by one we found on Scout Scar we found challenging.

That said, this cache has only *totally* gone twice. The number of kind notes from discovering muggles has been rather edifying and in some small way, this cache may have introduced our game to the wider public.

Special thanks go to Charlie Rosie and Elisa who with their Mum and Dad put in a temporary replacement and with the help of the tree faeries have been keeping an eye on this cache.

Please take extra care handling this cache and replacing as you find it.
