in our disclaimer.
The 1st of what we hope to be many overnight campouts will take
place at the KOA in Laramie August 15, 2009. We hope in the future
to have this event in the mountains and over a full weekend around
the beautiful state of Wyoming, but for our 1st it will be held in
Laramie and only be one night.
The event will officially start at 11:30 a.m. on August 15, 2009 at
the Laramie KOA you can check in starting at 11:00 a.m.
This campground has cabins that can be rented. In addition they
have plenty of RV room and a place to have a tent city.
They will give all geocachers a 10% discount and try to keep us all
in the same area. When you call to reserve the keyword
"geocaching" to receive the discount and to make sure they
have spots for you in our area. It is a first come first serve
basis on spots but they will do there best to keep us all together
as they know we are coming.
Prices run $20 to $55 (not including discount) for RV, tent or
cabins depending on the accommodations you need, these prices
include two people per reservation. There is and additional charge
for more then 2 people, 8 and under are free.
To reserve your spot call 1-800-562-4153 and use the keyword
“geocaching” to receive the discount. Please do not reserve
online as you will not receive the discount and they will not have
a true count of how many geocachers are at their local
campground.
Timeline of events: (Note some times have changed).
11:00 a.m. - Cachers can start checking in at the campground
and get settled in.
11:30 a.m. - The official start of the 1st Annual Wyoming
Overnight (cords will be added to sign in location) so it is time
to sign-in.
12:00 p.m. - It is time to eat, for lunch you will have to
provide your own, sit, chat and enjoy time with old and new
friends.
2:00 until 5:00 p.m. - Time to go geocaching or just sit and
talk to old and new friends.
5:00 p.m. - Time to fire up the grill and slap on some
burgers and dogs. Your host Team SCR will provide the burgers and
dogs all we ask is that all of are fellow geocachers please provide
the side items. When you RSVP on this page please list what you
will bring to the event. This will be the only planned meal
together all other meals everyone will be on their own.
6:30 p.m. - Geogolf, who will have the lowest score (Notice
the time is earlier to make sure we have plenty of daylight).
8:30 p.m. - It is time to get together and go out and find a
few caches in the dark. Maybe go up to Vedauwoo and see what we can
find in the hills after dark (we will all stay in groups and with
all of us having GPS’r hopefully we can find our way out).
After we get back from caching after dark it will probably be time
to catch some shut eye. The next morning we will get up, do some
early morning caching, clean up, check out and go have all you can
eat biscuits and gravy at a local fast food restaurant.
This event will take place rain or shine as the campground has
already reserved the rec. room for us so we have cover if the skies
decide to open up.
I will post more about the event as the time gets closer or as I
get ideas.
There will be new caches hidden for this event, you will have to
attend the event to get the cords to the new caches as they will
not be posted until after the event.
If anyone would like to volunteer to help feel time please email
Team SCR and let us know. There is a lot of time to use up in an
overnight event so any games or activities planned by others would
be greatly appreciated.
