The cache, a fifty-caliber ammo box, is not at the listed
coordinates, but the coords will lead you to a handy parking
spot.
I am a big fan of puzzle caches and was recently in Florida
where I ran across this fun puzzle. Thanks to large-marge for
letting me borrow it.
While caching in Florida, I learned that it takes some time to
get used to new terrain, new kinds of plants, and new styles of
hides. This made caching there difficult, but refreshing and fun.
But I was constantly on edge, looking over my shoulder for
alligators, jumping at small noises, assuming I was about to get
chomped. So although I imported this puzzle from Florida, it is
placed in celebration of the fact that there are no alligators in
Illinois!
So, on to the puzzle. The "numbrix" is a 9 x 9 matrix with the
numbers 1 - 81. You will have to fill in the missing numbers so
that the numbers 1 - 81 follow a continuous path through the
matrix. Only vertical and horizontal paths are allowed; no
diagonals. Associated with each block in the matrix is a letter.
When you have completed the numbrix, starting with the letter in
the first block, follow the path and write down each letter
associated with that block and then move on to the next numbrix
block. When you have finished, you will have the first sentence of
a famous book written by a 20th century futurist. Starting with the
first letter in the book's title, assign the numbers 0-9 to the
first nine letters of the book's title, but skipping the number 2
(so, 0, 1, 3, 4, etc.) . Then use that key to get the coordinates
of the cache.
The cache is located at:
N 41 IH.WAW
W 87 TM.SOM
Happy hunting, and keep in mind as you are getting eaten alive
by mosquitoes while signing in, at least there are no
alligators!
