Geocache Description:

The Rose Inn at Gundagai was the first building to be constructed within the town and was originally on this exact site of the monument.It was one of the few to survive the great flood of 1852 .An impressive replica of the Rose Inn and a monument now feature as a reminder ,often missed by tourists unaware of its existence and important role in history of the Gundagai region.


Thomas Lindley was the hotel propietor in 1852 when the great flood came with a raging torrent in the darkness of night.His wife and four children perished. The cairn was officially unveiled in 1988 by Thomas Lindley's great grandson Jack Lindley O.A.M. JP on the 9 th October 1988.

The Lindley Familiy reunion was held in 2005 and a plaque placed in memory of Thomas Lindley that reads: Thomas Lindley Born November 1807 -Sheffield UK.Died.August 1862 -Sydney NSW. "He triumphed over hard times to become a worthy citizen and businessman in the development of early Gundagai.We remember him with pride."
The cache is a coloured micro blended into its surroundings.It contains a log sheet .The difficulty rating reflects stealth factor required with a chance of people from any direction at any given time in this unusual location.
