Ilovik

Sv. Petar


The island of Ilovik and Sveti Petar are islands in northern part of Adriatic sea, south of Mali Lošinj.
Ilovik has beutiful flora, it is nicknamed "The island of flowers". On the island Ilovik there is only one village - also called Ilovik. In the village there is post office, currency exchange office, small market and several restaurants. Island Ilovik is daily connected by ship with Mali Lošinj. It has a population of about 70 inhabitants, who lives there all month of the year. In the inlet between the island of Ilovik and the island of Sv. Petar there is often many sailing yachts. The inlet is 2,5km long and 300m wide.
Island of Sv. Petar is desert island. There is some ruins of Benedictian monastery and there is a cemetry too.

History

Due to its geographic location, the inlet between Ilovik and Sv. Petar was used as a safe anchorage since the ancient times. This also brought first inhabitants to these islands. In the middle age, islands houses a Franciscan and Benedictine monastery. In 1600 there was also build a small castle. It was builded by Venetians to defend the area from pirates.

Cache

Cache is hidden on the island of Sv. Petar near the remains of Benedictian monastery. It is recommended to get to cache by boat. In the inlet between island can be some flush and it could be dangerous to swim.
