Geocache Description:

A gorge classic...

Nick Eaton was a farmer who lived near Wyeth in the early 1900's. The ridge bearing his name is one of the best hikes on the Oregon side of the gorge. It's steep and strenuous, but offers some excellent views along the way and usually a fair bit of solitude. In the spring there are small meadows with flowers.

The cache is located near the summit of the first high point on the ridge at about 3150 feet elevation. There's lots of trails in this area making a number of loop options possible. One option would be to combine this with the caches near Indian Point for a geocaching trifecta. The ridge itself continues for several miles beyond, in fact you could hike all the way to Green Point Mountain or even Wahtum Lake if you were so inclined and return on the PCT. That would be a very long hike.

No matter the route this hike is hard by most anyone's measure, so be sure to prepare accordingly including bringing plenty of water. The last 100 yards or so are off trail. Wait until you reach the open area and scamper up the scree slope.

Cache is a smallish Pelican container and includes a Buck Mini 350, a one ounce multi tool with pliers and scissors. It's not made any longer and difficult to find now.

Enjoy!
