Let me shed some light on a little known contribution to our culture. You have probably driven past dozens of these stores, maybe even stopped into one or two, but there is something about them I'll bet you didn't know. Here is a bit of trivia. Back in 1922, when there were just a few of these chain stores, a light bulb lit above Ivar "Pop" Coulson's head. He added the companies ice cream to the Malted Milk and the immortal malted milkshake was invented in Chicago. Also in 1931, this chain became the first chain in the country to advertise on the radio, with legendary Chicago Cubs announcer Bob Elson.
