Siamese Twins
The cache is a smallish regular-sized tupperware container hid
very near the trees pictured above. Probably due to their
relationship with one another (and the impact on the quality of
their lumber), these two trees escaped being chopped down back when
the other redwoods were harvested.
Cache is located along the Hollow Tree Trail, no need to go off
trail for this one. Although technically located in the Big Basin
Redwoods State Park, Michael_SFBA, catomcat and I actually started
from the Portola Redwoods State Park. We started there and passed
through Pescadero Creek County Park to reach this spot. Note: there
is a $6 entrance fee to park in either Portola Redwoods or in Big
Basin.
Today's Portola Redwoods to Big Basin hike was one of the
prettiest I've ever done, I highly recommend it. Depending on the
time of year (and weather) be sure and bring mosquito
repellant.
