Geocache Description:

GROOVER; large ammo box or rocket box that serves as a latrine. Or, the cargo boat man who carries the groover! A LOO WITH A VIEW!

Placed this cache while on our annual Kayakn Ferrets Birthday Float! We have always camped at this spot for the last five years! It is the only camp site that comes with a BLM provided privy! NO GROOVER!!!! There is also an unimproved boat launch! Can be reached by boat or by car. Located along Burnt Ranch Rd./Bridge Creek Rd. Best done by boat and spending 4-5 days on the river!
I usually run the river in my Wilderness touring kayak(KAYAK'N FERRETS)! But last year we swamped so many canoes because of all the equipment;stove, propane bottle, toilet(groover), food, coolers, ect. that I volunteered to bring my drift boat to haul all the heavy gear & toilet down the river. Therefore this year I was the cargo boat man and he who carries the toilet is the GROOVER!
In river rafting terminology, a "groover" is a rocket box which serves as a latrine. The name comes from the grooves you get on your thighs and buttocks when you sit on the thin metal rim of the box to make your deposit. We pack a toilet seat for increased comfort! Thus, on a trip you go to the groover to groove. NOTE: DON'T PEE IN THE GROOVER! The groover is for poop only! Toilet paper goes in the paper bag next to the groover, and pee goes in the river or in the bushes, depending upon the river! The John Day River area is very dry and if everyone did their bussiness behind the campsite the whole area would soon begin to smell like a privy!

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Choose a spot for the groover that is downwind of camp, if you can. It should be easy for a drunken rafter to find in the dark, but screened from view. BONUS POINTS: a good view of the river, without being visible to passing rafts, canoes, kayaks, & drift boats. Try using a paddle accross the trail as a signal as to where the groover is! Pick up the paddle on the way to the groover to let everyone know it is in use! Don't forget to replace the paddle upon finishing your bussiness!
