Penny's Bend Traditional Cache
mossyfeet: I did go out and pick up the swag that the ammo can robbers had left strewn about the hillside. This is much too beautiful a place for that!

Welcome to what may be the most beautiful part of the Penny's Bend Nature Preserve.
The cache is where the Eno River met a diabase sill and consequently made a bend to the south. If you want more information about the preserve, Google is your friend.
There are many ways to get to this cache without leaving semi-maintained trails until you are very near. One way is to walk the entire peninsula, clockwise – a great walk in any season except perhaps high summer. Another way is via the Ridge Trail. The hardest part may be figuring out the trail system, since there are almost no signs.
I'm posting an image of an old trail map that was drawn by the late George Pyne. It's good as an overview, but don't count on the details of the real world corresponding very closely to it.
Be sure to go on down to the river from the cache, if you didn't come from there!
