Geocache Description:

To hump up Humpback Mountain you have a couple options. Option one is the standard route up the northwest ridge (5 miles RT, 2,600 feet). It's pretty steep, but there's a good trail. Option two goes to Scout Lake, contours up to the south ridge to the summit, and down the northwest ridge (6.3 miles, 2,300 feet). There is an established trail to Scout Lake, no trail via the south ridge, and a flagged, unmaintained trail on the northwest ridge.

To get there, take Exit 47 off of I-90 and head south a couple of hundred yards. Turn right onto FS 55, veer to the left at the next intersection onto the Hanson Creek Road (FS 5510), drive past the power line clearing and turn uphill under the old railroad trestle.

To go via the northwest ridge, park near N47 22.706 W121 30.970 and walk up the road. Walk to the toe of the northwest ridge and look for a sandy slope to access the ridge. You’ll find a trail that is relatively well defined and flagged.

To go to Scout Lake and up the southeast ridge, park one car at the trailhead for the northwest ridge and park the other at the start of the Scout Lake trailhead at N47 21.963 W121 30.745. The hike to the lake is about 1.7 miles and 1000 feet. From there, contour up the west slope of Humpback and gain the ridge. From the lake to the summit is about 2 miles and 1200 feet. You can then take the northwest ridge down to the second car for a nice loop.

At the top, enjoy 360-degree views including Kaleetan Peak, Granite Mtn, Silver Peak, Annette Lake, Red Mountain, McClellan Butte, Snoqualmie Mountain, Mount Stuart, Glacier Peak, Mt Rainier and countless others.
