On the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro near Engel. Here we are, smack dab in the middle of the infamous Jornada del Muerto!
This was put in June 19, 2009 - the day our authentic 16th-Century living history group, La Sociedad de la Entrada, participated in the historic groundbreaking of Spaceport America. Yet another chapter in the amazing history of the Camino Real, a super highway of commerce. Starting as an Indian Trail and followed by Juan de Onate and his colonists, it later became the Chihuahua Trail, then U.S. Army wagon road, then an early unpaved auto route, then planes began to follow it, then later, in many places closer to the Rio Grande it became U.S. Highway 85, and then I-25. Next, back out on the Jornada del Muerto near Engel - and actually near Paraje Aleman, this chapter becomes Jornada de Celestiales! Vaya con Dios, y Santiago y cierra España!
