All Scouts - boys and girls alike - have to learn about the
environment and take part in various community service projects
during each level of their Scouting careers. We are combining a
"Green-Up" effort with some fun added in. The best part of Scouting
is OUTING!
You may choose to camp out for the event or just visit us for
the day 9 am - 9 pm. The camp sites will accommodate tents and
trailers up to 20 feet. Two sites can fit a 30 foot camper.
You must
call Little River State Park if
you are interested in spending the evening. They are also
waiving the 2-night minimum for those who just want to stay on the
12th. The stings will be staying on the 11th as well. Geodogs
welcome, but will need papers.
The Park Ranger is working on a to do list for us - such as
raking, moving fire wood, trash pickup, etc. The event has been
promoted in the Vermont Councils of both the Girl Scouts and Boy
Scouts. The goal, as last year, is to team a couple of geocachers
with a Scout family to work together in the clean up effort and
then head out for a couple of caches (cache sheets will be
available at the event).
The Vermont Council for the Boy Scouts of America will be
allowing us to use their 12 GPSrs again! Yeah! I will be requiring
a Driver's License to swap out a unit for the event. They will all
be pre-programmed with the coordinates of the new caches.
Trash bags will be supplied. Scouts - dress in your class B
(T-shirt) uniforms. Everyone else wear something you don't mind
getting dirty. Work gloves and insect repellent are highly
recommended! (Lavender oil is an all natural alternative.) We have
access to several restrooms. If you are not able to come early
enough to help with the clean up, come anyway, enjoy lunch, and
team up with a Scout family for the afternoon. (Teaming up with a
Scouting family is not required. Cache only as you are comfortable
- no
pressure.) Some of the Scouting families
that came last year recently celebrated their one year
cachiversary!
I have been granted permission to place caches for the event.
There are 15 preapproved, permanent caches ready to go
>>> 12 from the stings and 3 from CAL and Sasha (Thank you
). These caches will be made
available on the afternoon of the event to give the event
participants (especially the Scouts) the chance to experience
a FTF. The FTF prizes in the caches will be Scout and CITO
related. Please be mindful of geocaching etiquette and
Scouting's Leave No Trace rules. Have a FUN day!!!
It is also time for the 2009 Geovague Awards!!
