Geocache Description:

cache located just outside of rices landing in the old swan family cematary{my ancestors,} aother distant relative cleaned up the grounds and placed flags on graves, easy terrian,easy walking,however may not always be cleaned up of weeds and jaggers going in,but grave yard area is always clear

the swan cematary is located on a slight hill,just a few hundred yards away from where fort swan used to stand,at the present site of the farm house you pass on the left hand side of the road getting to the cache site. pull onto the gravel drive off to the left just past the farm house,and go up hill. parking is on a pull off on the left,,you cant miss the cematary as it is surrounded by ossage {monkey ball}trees,as was the style in those days,{late 1700's -1800's}

pay no attention to the old rusted no tresspassing sign you may find hanging in the trees as it was left over from when consol stripped mined this land back in the early 80's then sold the property to the county,and the cematary has always belonged to the ancestors of the swans{my family and anyone else who claims a direct lineage to the first settlesr of greene county,visit the first log court house,which is the local historacal society to trace your family tree}

if you stay in this area you will not be tresspassing on anyones land, i have enclosed in the cache a small copy of the local tax office map,which shows the property line areas,and the man who owns the traler on the hill way back,knows of the cematary etc,,and has no problems with anyone comming to it as long as they dont go "wondering around on his land" end quote! so please be good caches,andrespect his wishes

also while youe here,say hello to my sister and mom,whose ashes are here,as they started this 15 year family histort search,which started here,with a deer hide bible,resuced from my grandmothers hands,that wason its way to the burn pile,that has lead us to charlimigne the ruler of the west,born in 742 a.d,,and 22nd in line for the crown! cool huh!

a little history on old john swan{his son was named john swan,complacting matters} he came over from england in 1632,then went back,to get the rest of his family after exploring this area as far as the banks of ten mile creek,he later came back with his family and the familys of the Van meters and the hughes,who all inter married,being the only "human" inhabitants in these parts at that time{no kidding that is what the records say} thus linking us to the hughes{hughes cahes in jefferson} john swan also had slaves,which are also burried here at the cematary,he set them free shortly after comming here,,the info and stories are mind bogaling,with tales of hidden treasues,ghosts,the sharpnecks of sharpneck holler,who could spin haunted tales,,forts and indian attacks that left grieving mothers with infants hiding in the forrest for 3 days before wandering into the safety of the forts after seeing their familys killed. one story tells of the swan and van meter family floating down river and an idian attack left the e;der swan shot with an arrow and dead on his little girls lap,as she thought he was sleeping,only to try to awaken him and discovered he had been shot with with an arrow and she was covered with his blood,,nice stories to hear,,no wonder i was terrified to travel out west the first time i went,and went onto a balckfoot res.

you can llok up more info about the swans and hughes online or for even more better info,go to the first log court house in waynesburg,,you might find out you to are related to these brave people whose wondering souls helped settle this land,,

also the bones at cahce site are NOT human,,so dont feak out!!

also this micro is is to show folks how to pack a micro,,its packed full of stuff,and i mean stuff,gift cards,braclets,money,etc,,this is how to pack a micro!!!!it can be done,,so follow suit,,it makes it easier for those of us with kids to drag them out on crummy days if they find a little something,,
