This cache is located about 500' beyond a locked gate on a
graveled road leading to the historic guard station. It is about
1/2 mile down this road to the station. If you would like a nice
walk, go on down and take a look!! The geocache is an ammo can
filled with trade items hidden in the usual manner on the uphill
side of the road.
The Lodgepole Guard Station is located on the Rogue River National
Forest near Butte Falls, Oregon. It was built in the 1930's by CCC
work crews to serve as the seasonal home base for a fire guard, as
well as the forest packer and his mules for many years. Over the
past several years the cabin and little barn have been restored.
Our horse club constructed four corrals adjacent to the paddocks
and all fences have been repaired. The cabin has a bedroom, living
room, kitchen and bathroom. There is no electricity, but there is
propane for hot water and cooking. There is a new wood stove in the
living room too.
Very soon the Forest Service hopes to have it ready to rent and it
will be listed on the reserve.gov website. It will be available to
anyone - equestrians and campers alike.
