Officer Vitagliano no longer walks the beat. He's been on desk duty
now for eight and a half months. Well, earlier today, my partner
Kent and I were out on patrol when we got a lead on a case we have
been tracking. I radioed Officer V (sometimes, we just call him
"V") and asked him to look up the waypoint IDs of some caches found
by three Sac-area cachers: SKWERL, mcattk, and Jeo. The list
he gave me didn't make any sense to me.
V told me that SKWERL went from GC39E to
GC55E;
mcattk found GCF21; and
Jeo found GCJDAH.
I told what V told me to my partner Kent, who LOVES puzzles ... and
getting my goat. Kent just smiled. Clearly, he had an idea about
what was going on. Kent hopped on the computer, and a few minutes
later, he asked me:
1. What's the waypoint ID of what SKWERL found next?
2. On what date did mcattk find his cache? Ignore the month and the
year.
3. What's the waypoint ID of what Jeo found next?
Then, when you find the answers, drop all letters so you're left
with just numbers.
Then, take the first digit of your answer to #1. That's A.
Subtract 1 from the second digit of your answer to #2. That's B.
Add 1 to the third digit of your answer to #3. That's C.
Subtract 1 from the second digit of your answer to #1. That's
D.
Add 1 to the first digit of your answer to #2. That's E.
Take the second digit of your answer to #2. That's F.
Partner, our next stop is at N 38° 34.ABC W 121° 32.DEF.
I looked at him with my usual deer-in-the-headlights look, and he
sighed and said, "Forget it, just get in. I'll drive."
You can validate your puzzle solution with
certitude.
