Well, this is one of my favorite places around Colville. About fourteen miles out of Colville on highway 20 is a place called Trilby Falls. It typically isn't on most maps, but is resides on the Wildlife Refuge. The Cache is not on the Refuge, but is on the outside edge. The Wildlife Refuge will not allow us to place caches on the land, but I wanted people to experience this beautiful spot, so I placed the cache near the head of the trail that leads to the falls. The difficulty of the terrain to the cache is a 1, but to Trilby Falls I would say it is a 4. Although the trail is short, be forewarned, it is quite steep in places.
The turn off of the highway is N 48* 30.460 W 117* 39.873. For a visual reference there is a small waste management site and the next right hand turn after the site will be the road you need. The brush on the dirt road is a little overgrown, but there is a place to park right after you turn off if you would rather walk back in. If you decide to drive down the road, there is a place to park at N 48* 30.254 W 117* 39.779. The head of the trail is not far from this point, but it is not marked. The trail will be on the left side of the road and the mark for it is N 48* 30.230 W 117* 39.751.
I have included the trailhead coordinates in the cache if you don't want to write all this down.
Please be careful...there are wild animals out there and they may have a difficult time hearing you since the waterfall is so loud. Once you get there, if you feel up to it, cross the stream and there is a trail that goes down the length of the falls which provides a few wonderful viewing spots.
UPDATE!!!! I got into Geocaching for a number of reasons, but the most important one was to find and experience new areas and enjoy the wonders they had to offer. I am very happy to see that people have enjoyed this cache so far, but I fear that a good majority of people don't understand the purpose of this cache. My intent was to have people go enjoy the beauty of the falls, not to just collect a "find" for the geocache website. I want to say thanks to all of you who have actually hiked down to the falls and to those of you who haven't...please come on back and see mother nature at her finest. This is not the best waterfall in the world, but it is something to behold.
