Geocache Description:

Visit a piece of Golden's history.

Back in the early 20th century, steam ships used to come up on the Columbia from Invermere to pick up wood that was produced from logging around Golden. This site is where the mill sat that processed the lumber before being moved down the river.
These days all that is left are the walls and some of the kilns that were used to dry the wood. And a lot of grafitti; this has been a hangout for kids for many years now. I, myself, used to come here pretty regularly back in the 1980's when I was in high school in Golden.
Getting there is a short walk but there can be lots of mosquitoes and during the spring, there can be wet spots during high water that you need to watch for.
Cache is a small lock and lock with a log book and some small trade items.

Park at the coordinates listed below and follow the gravel road to the right of the chain link fence. This will avoid crossing over on the CP rail land and any hassles that may cause. You can see the mill through the trees once you get past the Town of Golden plant on the left side.
