Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches hidden at Trout Lake Nature Center. Trout Lake is a wonderful 230 acre nature preserve just north of Eustis approximately ½ mile east of the intersection of County Road 44 (NOT State Road 44) and State Road 19. There is no admission fee but donations are always welcome.

Call ahead 352-357-7536 to check on open hours as they change with the season (or check the website – www.troutlakenature.org). Generally, June 1 – Sept 1 Closed Sun and Mon, open 9 – 12:30 Tues – Sat. Sept 1 – June 1 Closed Mon, open 9 – 12:30 Tues, Wed, Thurs, 9 – 4 Fri, Sat and 1-4 Sun. Once at Trout Lake, there are two buildings with really neat exhibits, a picnic pavilion and several trails to walk. A boardwalk goes down to the lake to a dock where you can enjoy quiet. During the rainy season, the mosquitoes can be bothersome so pack some repellant.

You are searching for a medium size lock and lock container that has been appropriately covered in camo tape. All of the caches at Trout Lake Nature Center are kid friendly. They are designed to be easily assessable to children and yet fun for veteran geocachers.

This cache is located near the trail. Once you have located the cache, signed the log and traded, please be sure to engage all 4 locks to ensure the cache stays waterproof. Take a few minutes to explore the Education Building which you will pass on the trail out. There is a really great diorama with a panther on exhibit. If you look quietly out the South windows, you might see a gopher tortoise or two. Then on to the next cache.

Please, we have been asked that there be NO bushwacking – this is a preserve established to protect both animals and plants so please stay on trails to and from cache locations. Some of the trails my be seasonally wet.

Have fun and enjoy your visit to Trout Lake Nature Center.
