arrived in Edmond in August of 1889 and was instrumental in
developing the new community. He promoted beautification of the
town and the establishment of parks.
He was mayor from 1890 to 1891 and was responsible for the
planting of 1000 trees on the campus of the territorial Normal
School (now UCO). He was given the name "Father of the Normal
School."
Mitch Park was developed and named for him in 1994.
Park closes at dusk.
