Geocache Description:

Come and experience what Mount Canopus has to offer

An easy 2.5km stroll around lower Mount Canopus, unless you opt to take the optional way points in which case it becomes a tougher 5km trek to the top of the mountain.

This is a walk which we take regularly. We’d like to share it because there are some interesting things to see along the way. An olive farm, winery, unusual animals and scenic views.

We suggest that you park at S42° 50.848 E147° 25.222.

At WP1 (S42° 50.883 E147° 25.254) you will find an Aurora pole with the number 166ABC.

At WP2 (S42° 50.[4+B][5-A][3+C] E147° 25.[3+A][9-B][8-C]) you will find a concrete structure. There are D steel lugs on the top of this structure.

At WP3 (S42° 50.[D+2][D-B][D-C] E147° 25.[D+A][A+C][D+3]) you will find a business. The street number of this business is EFG

At WP4 (S42° 51.[F-A][D-E][F+G] E147° 25.[D+E][D+F][D+B]) you will find an Aurora pole with the number 166HIJ.

Now you have a choice:
Choice 1: For an easy stroll head to WP5
Choice 2: For an additional 2.5km trek to the top of the mountain (a total of 5km) proceed to OWP1 (Optional Way Point 1).

At WP5 (S42° 51.[J-H][G-J][G+E] E147° 25.[I+J][G+2][J+D]) you will find an Aurora pole with the number 166KLM.

At WP6 (S42° 51.[K+I][M+H][G+L] E147° 25.[J+K][K+I][M+B]) you need to find a safe way to cross the creek and head to GZ.

GZ is at (S42° 51.[K+A][J+L][M-L] E147° 25.[M-H][J+D][M+L])

From GZ, follow the creek downhill until you come to the old railway bridge. Turn right and follow the track back to WP1.

Optional Way Points:
How energetic are you feeling? Are you up for it? If so, proceed to OWP1, otherwise go to WP5.

At OWP1 (S42° 51.[J-D][G-2][D+B] E147° 25.[G+I][J+5][I+C]) you will find an Aurora pole with the number 166NOP.

At OWP2 (S42° 50.[G+O][G+2][N+H] E147° 25.[D+J][J+5][G-O]) you will find an Aurora pole with the number 166QRS.

At OWP3 (S42° 50.[S-B][Q-H][R+G] E147° 26.[R-E][S-Q][Q+E]) you will find something which will help you to complete this cache. If you fail to find this, you can always retrace your steps back to WP4 and complete this cache from there.

The cache is a clear 3 litre Sistema container which at the time of placement contained:
    - Logbook and Pen
    - FTF Gift
    - A Variety of swaps
