Die Kalvarienberg-Anlage in Stangenthal unweit des Stifts
Lilienfeld ist eine der größten und die vielleicht eindrucksvollste
in Österreich. Im Jahr 1677 wurde sie unter dem Lilienfelder Abt
Matthäus Kohlweiß geweiht. Die aus insgesamt zwanzig Statuen
bestehende Anlage, nach dem Vorbild der Scala Santa in Rom
entstanden, wurde unmittelbar an den Berghang unter Ausnützung der
sich hier bizarr auftürmenden Felsen angebaut und durch Stiegen und
Treppenanlagen erschlossen. Eine Grab-Christi-Kapelle im Mittelteil
und die auf der Höhe der Felsen errichtete, weithin sichtbare
Kreuzigungsgruppe bildeten für die unzähligen Wallfahrer nach
Mariazell fortan eine wichtige Station und Andachtsstätte.
Es ist nicht notwendig zu klettern oder den Kalvarienberg zu
demontieren. Der Cache ist in keiner Mauer. Also bitte nichts
abbauen. Bleib weg von den Felsen, dort ist er nicht.
Der Hund des Kalvarienberg-Nachbarn marschiert manchmal laut
bellend auf der Wiese herum. Er ist aber harmlos. Wenn er euch
nervt, schnauzt ihn einfach an, dann ist ruhe.

The Calvary in „Stangenthal“ near the monastery in
Lilienfeld is one of the biggest and most impressive in Austria. In
1677 it was sanctified by the abbot of Lilienfeld Matthäus
Kohlweiß. On the hill there are 20 statues, arranged around the
impressive natural rocks. The stairs were built after the model of
the Scala Santa in Rome. A “grave of Christ” Chapel in
the middle was and still is an important stop for countless Christs
on their way to Mariazell.
It is not necessary to climb or to dismantle the Calvary The Cache
is not in a wall or in something that once has been one. Stay away
of the rocks, it isn’t there.
The barking dog that may be around here is harmless. Just shout at
him and he is quiet.
