This is the "Fort" I built in 1993 when I was 12!
My brothers and I used to hike into the woods back here and play. On all the sunny days when we couldn't play Nintendo (NES) & SEGA Genesis. So, I thought it would be a good place for a Geocache to share this area with others. Sadly its little more than rotted logs and mossy ground now. (READ carefully and use the Starting Point as described below for an easier find)
STARTING POINT:
Park at the pump house on Thunderbird drive near the end of Teal Loop Rd. The path is the trail that leads into the woods at the inter section of Teal loop and Thunderbird.
!!! It looks like no one has been here in many years. The path is overgrown with alders, bushes, and fallen trees. This may make it difficult for small children and pets, please use good judgment. Where long pants, hiking boots and bring BUG SPRAY. As with all back woods caches in Alaska its wise to bring pepper spray and or a gun for protection. Bears and other game sightings in the area are not uncommon.
(As I recall we never had any of these things back when I was 12, We were adventurous!! ; D
Please remember that people live here, don't hike through someone's back yard. Mark your car and the top of the SLEDDING HILL to help find your way back easier. You can use a mountain/dirt bike to get over half way to the cache, but you will have to leave them at the top of the sledding hill. That's how I used to get here.
The Geocache is an Army Green Ammo Can. In the cache was a Logbook, Pencil, LED Key Chain and a Short description of the site.
Finally, Don't miss the short (1 - 2 mile) hike to Thunderbird Falls, For some great scenery of the falls. Parking is available near the entrance of the Thunderbird Heights subdivision. There is a fee of $5 cash or check for parking at the T.Bird trail head.
