Geocache Description:

An easy day hike is needed to find this cache. The family friendly trail is well marked and well maintained.

There are several ways to approach this cache. Not long ago the only way would be to park at the Grayling Lake trail head at mile 13 on the Seward highway. At that time you'd have to hike in and out on the same trail. In recent years the Iditarod National Historic Trail Inc. and the U.S. Forest Service has been making great improvements in the Seward area. Now, you can park at the mile 12 ski area and hike the loop to the original trail head at mile 13 or continue on the trail and pick up the Iditacache on the way to the Primrose trail head on Kenai Lake. It is recomended to use two vehicles for the longer hike. Park one at Primrose then drive to the 12 mile ski area to start your hike. Allow about five hours to hike to primrose with several breaks included. If you choose to mt. bike instead you could cut that time in half.
This trail system has some moderate hills but does not gain any significant altitude. The entire trail is in the spruce/hemlock forest so there aren't the spectacular views you would expect from a hike to the higher alpine areas. There are some nice sights however. In several places the mountains are visible and a creative photographer can get some nice photos.
The cache is an ammo can with just a few items in it. There is plenty of room for more trade items. Good luck and enjoy your hike!

The cache is hidden under a heavy tree canopy. Older GPS units without a high sensitivity antenna may not work here.
