Geocache Description:

This is part of a series of caches. Each one is an individual cache, and together they lead to a final destination, with a prize for the first to find. The cache is a small clip-lock box with no pen/cils.

The raven is the largest of the crow family, and found all over Dartmoor. It resembles the crow closely, but can be distinguished by its larger size, long, curved beak, and the ruff of feathers under its chin. In flight it also has a tapered tail, unlike the crow’s flat-ended one.

The raven is famously associated with the Tower of London, which is fabled to fall if the ravens disappear. The raven population at the Tower did fall to just a single individual on one occasion, and was replenished with birds captured from Sourton Quarry, just outside the northwest boundary of the National Park.

There are many places in Dartmoor associated with the Raven, and many places named after it: there are numerous Raven Rocks and Ravens Tors; Rippen Tor was once another Raven Tor.

The cache is sited on the hillside overlooking Raven's Tor, in the beautiful Lustleigh Cleave.

This cache is part of the Heart of Dartmoor Series. Inside each cache is a yellow card with 2 numbers on it. Please ignore the Greek letter clue. The other clue will help you to find the Heart of Dartmoor Bonus.
