Geocache Description:

Atlantis - The sunken island...

Scientists have discovered a sunken island in Mantua Reservior. On this sunken island they found ruins that are thousand of years old. Among these ruins, they found an amazing artifact. It appears to be what we now call a "geocache". This proves than the ancient inhabitants of this island had a form of global positioning technology, which was lost when the island sunk and only recently re-discovered.

Due to this amazing discovery, the scientists believe this to be the location of the ancient fabled city of Atlantis!

Before the island sunk however, the inhabitants implemented a system to keep would-be intruders away. They planted immense fields of a seaweed-like plant (found nowhere else in the world!) to clog and thus render useless the engines of any who would dare approach. The only way to reach the ruins is with man-powered vessel.

The former inhabitants also devised a way to scare off intruders in the winter months. A complex system was installed under the reservior to pump warm water to springs scattered throughout the area. Therefore, even though the reservior freezes over in the winter months, it is extremely dangerous to attempt passage due to these unseen soft spots in the ice. Approach at your own risk!

Due to its ancient and fragile nature, great care must be taken when retrieving and replacing this artifact. Extra attachment devices have been placed inside the artifact in the event that they are needed. BYOP
