The cache title refers not to Irish political divisions but the
hiking trails that will lead you to the hide. From the Wilcox
Memorial Park main parking lot, it's a short walk to the orange /
red trailhead to the west of the swimming beach. Where the orange
and red trails diverge, turn right on the orange trail. From there,
it's about 0.3 miles to the junction of the orange and green
trails, where you'll turn right on the green trail. You'll need to
pay attention after this point, because the green trail isn't
nearly as well-defined as the orange and it's easy to wander off
it. The green trail gives this cache its terrain rating. The cache
is hidden a little ways downslope (east) from the overlook on the
green trail. More than a few inches of snow will make it difficult
to find.
Wilcox park is open from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM on weekends and
7:00 PM on weekdays (summer hours). Winter hours are more limited,
so be sure to check the link below for open times. Admission is
free to Dutchess County residents, but costs $8 / car for
non-residents at the time of this writing. However, the ticket
booth is not always manned, and you are welcome to enter for free
when that is the case. Dogs are permitted as long as they are on
leashes not longer than 6 feet. Bicycles are not permitted on
hiking trails. See the
Dutchess County Parks website for
complete information on policies and hours, and for a map of the
hiking trails.
The total hike from the parking area to the cache is about 0.6
miles. The orange trail intersects the park roads at several
points, so you can shorten the walk if you so desire. Parking is
permitted along the park roads as long as you pull entirely off the
asphalt, as the roads are not wide.
This cache was placed with the permission of the Dutchess County
Parks Department and the Director of Wilcox Memorial Park.
