Geocache Description:

Hiking along the trail to Esmerelda Basin there is this open hillside with a few evergreen trees and lots of flowers. The showy Scarlet Gilia dot the hillside along with other arid thriving flowers. Admiring flowers and view we kept hearing this buzzing sound and soon we realized that there were many Hummingbirds darting here and there enjoying the flowers also. They were especially attracted to the bright red Scarlet Gilia, commenly called "Sky Rocket".

This "Humdinger of a cache" is dedicated to all those beautiful flowers and hummingbirds. It is a Rubbermaid container hidden in the usual NW style.

Wildflowers are a passion of mine and I found this hike in a book on the best wildflower hikes in Washington State. The flowers bloom from June through August with mid July being peak season. Along this trail you will find flowers from the woodsy, meadow, arid, and alpine. If you share this passion with me you will especially enjoy this hike.

You will need a Forest Parking Pass to park at the trailhead to this cache.
Park at N 47 26.203 - W 120 56.227
