Not deep snow accessible.

The Forest City International Cemetery in Forest City, New Brunswick is a unique example of the ties between Canada and the United States. Years ago, in Forest City, Maine the Methodist Church was demolished and the cemetery was moved to Forest City, New Brunswick. Flags of both countries fly overhead. When this actually occurred is unknown, but likely in the late 1800's or early 1900's. Citizens of the United States continue to be buried here to this day.

The millstones at the front of the cemetery were retrieved from the tanneries that once existed in “The City" when it was a thriving community of more than 1000 souls. Although now small in numbers during the winter months, the Forest Cities swell to several hundred occupants during the summer lake season.

Over the years attempts have been made to document and record the burials without achieving any definitive list. Although the exact number may never be known, there are many burials done beyond living memory for which there is no record or grave marker. Some burials are recorded in various diaries kept by members of the community; a few ministers kept journals of funerals they conducted. But, generally, there is nothing in the way of a methodical recording of whom, when or where. This is poignantly noted by a small marker near the front section of the cemetery that reads “9 GRAVES - UNKNOWN” which is believed to be from the original transfer of graves from Forest City, Maine.

Take a few minutes to look around. The Cemetery is well maintained and visited regularly in the summer. There are many military markers honouring at least 1 veteran of the War of 1812 and several US Civil War, WWII and Korean War veterans.
