Geocache Description:

Placed for the Portage Race for the Cache / Meet & Eat on August 9, 2009.

No need to step on the landscaping.

This cache is placed just outside the entrance to the Portage Lakefront & Riverwalk, which, as part of the Marquette Plan, has been dubbed as the crown jewel of Portage. The park is the result of a great relationship between the National Park Service, which owns the land, and the City of Portage, which operates and maintains the land and building. The land itself is the former dumping grounds of the local steel mills and consisted mostly of acid waste pools. The steel mills then worked with the National Park Service and City of Portage to clean the land up and turn it into what you see today. For more info on this transformation, see the signs hanging in the foyer of the building.
