Warner Parks Nature Center
We will have a brief discussion about the basics of geocaching,
a Question and Answer session and then we will turn you out in the
hands of some veteran geocachers to find a few caches that will be
hidden near the Nature Center for demonstrational purposes only. If
it has been rainy, expect to get a little mud on your shoes. There
are several real geocaches in the park and nearby that you may wish
to find after the meeting and often a group will get together and
find a few.
You will learn how to:
- Use a GPSr (and what that ‘r’ means; it’s not a
typo)
- Put coordinates into your GPSr
- Navigate and learn what the various pages are in the
GPSr
- Hunt a cache, and some techniques to try while
hunting
- What to do after you find the cache
- Geocaching etiquette and CITO
We ask that children be accompanied by a responsible
adult so that the flora and fauna will not be trampled in the
excitement of hunting the caches. They are your children and we
don’t want to have to discipline them!
There will be some GPSr units available for you to use. We will
need your Driver’s License in order for you to borrow one. When you
return, we will return! If you have your own GPSr by all means
bring it. There will be several types of GPSr units that other
geocachers will have, so if you have any questions about them be
sure to ask. We like to talk about our units almost as much as our
kids!
Please call the Warner Parks Nature Center at 615-352-6299 to
register, if you are not an MTGC member. There are no registration
limits and all ages are welcome. Registration helps us ensure that
we have an adequate number of props and assistance. If you have a
geocaching account, please post a "Will Attend" log to this cache
page and let us know how many will be attending.
