Geocache Description:

Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. (9 p.m. in summer months) and Saturday from 10 a.m - noon. Be sure to check out the local history section in the back of the library. It contains a wealth of information pertaining to early settlers and the history of the area. The cache is a book-sized box.

In January, 1930, the Wild Rose Parent-Teacher’s Association, presided over by Reverend W.T. Williams, turned its efforts to establishing a reading room in the Village Hall. The Women’s Club joined in the effort and it grew from a reading room into an official library unit directed by a library board.

The first librarian was Mrs. Anna Hoaglin until her death in 1954. The Anna Hoaglin Memorial Fund was established by the Women’s Club in recognition of her twenty-four years of service.

Also in 1954, was the death of Mrs. Katherine Patterson. It was learned that Mrs. Patterson had bequeathed money to the Village “solely for the purpose of erecting a free public library, stipulated to be known as The Patterson Memorial Library.”

Mrs. Ruth Clarke became the Village’s second librarian upon Mrs. Hoaglin’s death. She retired in December, 1979 after twenty five plus years of dedicated service to the Village. Mrs. Linda Steffen succeeded her as the librarian, and she still holds this position today.

Since its expansion in 2006, the Wild Rose Library and Community Center have hosted many activities for people of all ages. The Senior Mealsite is housed in the community center and noon meal is served five days a week. The library is a busy place every day after school when it hosts an after-school program for all ages; homework help for all grades, light snack and enrichment programs, games and other activities.

Story times for the very young, summer library programs for children and families, book discussions for adults, knitting and crochet classes, public computers, wireless service, interesting displays and a friendly, helpful staff are some of the reasons many use the library.

Permission to hide this cache was given by Mrs. Linda Steffen. Please use stealth when logging this cache and place it back where you found it.
